The Network Against Prohibition (NAP) is a group dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and human rights of illicit drug users around the globe as well as the rights of those living in communities in developing countries who rely on opium, coca, cannabis etc for their survival! NAP originally formed in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, however, an expansion is underway.
NAPNT (the Northern Territory chapter of NAP), is a drug user advocacy/drug law-reform organisation based in Darwin , Australia.
NAPNT formed in March 2002 to fight against human rights abuses faced by illicit drug users in the Northern Territory of Australia , in particular, the ' drug house ' legislation.
The group is a real grass-roots network made up of illicit drug users, past and present, their family members and other community members who are concerned and angry at the current approach being taken to illicit drugs and their use on a local, national and global level.
NAPNT is a member of the Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL) and the International Coalition of Non-Government Organisations for Just and Effective Drug Policy . On a local level, we work closely with the Top End's indigenous communities.
NAPNT is in its fifth year of grass-roots campaigning against draconian drug legislation and the escalating prison population in the Northern Territory.

We receive no government funding and rely entirely on donations from individuals and organisations that are part of the network, and our supporters elsewhere.
Members of NAPNT core-group pay virtually all costs out of our own pockets. Most of us are on low incomes and struggle to survive at the same time as having to ensure the financial viability of the network.
We encourage members of the napnt yahoogroup to donate to NAPNT.
If all of the members of the yahoogroup donated as little as $1 per week, that would go a long way to ensuring that at least the NAPNT web-site (a widely accessed resource) is maintained.
Yet despite our limited funding the NAPNT has maintained a vibrant and important organisation.
The network conducts a range of important activities in Darwin and online.
These include but are not limited to:
These events provide an opportunity for NAPNT to engage with the wider community on illicit drug and drug law-reform issues in a relaxed setting with a free bbq and live music courtesy of local musicians.
Aboriginal actor, and activist, David Gulpilill AM, attended the 19th and 21st Community Smoke-Ins which was a gesture that the community appreciated greatly.
We also provide user friendly health information on our site and communicate with users from the NT and all over the globe via email and our website.
Our website would not be online without the generous support of the Drug Policy Foundation. If you don't wish to make a donation to NAPNT but you support drug law-reform, please support the Drug Policy Foundation .
We are obliged to pay two hundred (Aust) dollars per year for the server space provided to us by DPF.
However, due to their great generousity and support we have an agreement with DPF that we will pay them when we are financially viable.
This means that we need donations and DPF needs donations , so please assist us, if you can, to keep the fight alive.

The NAPNT crew have managed all of this under the constant threat of unlawful imprisonment, assault, harassment and intimidation from the NT Police State, while constantly fighting rearguard actions in the Courts.
A number of NAPNT members face jail penalties in 2006 and 2007.
Some people have to travel from interstate to attend court cases in Darwin, flying thousands of kilometres at their own expense, and this costs them a fortune in airline tickets. They need your support!

As well as meeting the costs of events such as the Smoke-Ins, Syringe Festivals and assorted protest rallies, we have a number of other ongoing costs that must be met to enable us to keep the campaign going.
The following is a sumary of the expenses we face monthly just to keep the dream alive, (events NOT included).
* NAP HQ lives in a share house with two of the NAP core-group and occasionally sundry others, and, as the "home office" takes up a lot of living space, should be expected to pay its share of the rent and electricity expenses.
As you can see, a significant amount of money is required to keep the NAPNT campaign going and to ensure that we continue to grow in the future. Every little bit helps.
