Rob's Ravings

Hi people. I'm Robert Fyffe. Born in Adelaide, South Australia on 15th January 1959. Have lived in Darwin, Northern Territory since 1996. This blog is a collection of my 'letters to the editor' that I've written to various Australian newspapers. Plus the odd intermittent ravings. Please feel free to comment.

Those bloody "itinerants" again

(Published)

How lucky we are to live in a city like Darwin, with
it's resident scapegaot population. The good old
"itinerants". Always drunk & fighting in everybodies
front gardens, it would seem.

Come off it people,
there just aren't that many around
for all of us to
have some living on our front lawn.
Some of us
actually have to buy gnomes and stuff to
decorate our
yards with, and then the bloody kids steal
them if you
don't bolt them down.

Apparently these "itinerants" go
about urinating and
defecating just everywhere. Yet in
10 years driving
around the streets of Darwin, day and
night, I find it
extremely rare for the "itinerants" to
be less discreet
than to duck off into the bushes, out
of sight.

Whereas, on any given night, along Mitchell
St.,
between midnighht and 6:00am, you'll likely

witness at least a dozen middle class white boys
pissing on anything that will keep still long enough,
and in full view of anyone who cares, or not, to watch.
And if you stroll around the suburban streets of
Darwin in the evenings, the all pervading stench is
that of dog shit, not human.

Apparently the "itinerants" are also responsible for
all the anti-social behaviour we witness around town,
yet I don't see many of them driving cars. So who do
we blame for all the anti-social behaviour, a very sad
lack of decency and good manners, on our roads.

Altogether too many me, me, me's & hypocrites in Darwin
lately, never used to be like that. We've always had
the "itinerants", trouble's only really started with the
arrival of the "Toorak Tractor" set, the greedies and wannabes.
