4.8 million people became newly infected with HIV in 2003Kofi Annan

This information is provided by The ARSE Foundation for anyone concerned about the high levels of HIV and HCV among people who inject drugs and who are angry about the lack of action being taken to stem the pandemics.  HIV killed 3 million people in 2003. It is expected that 5 million more people will be living with the virus by the end of 2004.

The Arse Foundation needs your support to educate the community about the real motives behind retractable syringe technology and to implement strategies aimed at reducing the levels of HIV and hepatitis C among people who inject drugs.

One of the devastating effects of the war on drugs is the loss of life due to the pandemic of blood borne viruses. Even more devastating is the lack of action on the part of the mega-corporations. These corporations have the means to immediately reduce HIV transmission rates across the world but they choose to profit from the pandemic instead.

Funds donated to The Arse Foundation will be used for ongoing education around the impact of government drug policy on the health and wellbeing of the community. We will have a primary focus on young people, who are bearing the brunt of the HIV epidemic and who are being forced further underground by reactive government drug policy or are being incarcerated in government sponsored breeding houses for HIV and hepatitis C.

The Arse Foundation is an initiative of the Network Against Prohibition, a Darwin based drug user organisation that is campaigning for an end to the destructive war on drugs.

Can't send money? - Other ways you can help?

There are many other ways that you can help out if like most of us, you don't have any spare cash to throw into the ring. If you are in the NT you can get involved in NAP activities such as poster and leaflet runs, direct actions, the UnderGround needle exchange program.

If you aren't lucky enough to be in Australia's outback, then maybe you could send us some syringes, butterflies, swabs, waters, filters etc for our UnderGround needle exchange. Stationary is always useful and thing else that you think we might be able to use.

Send it all to
