SA not lax on drug trafficking: Minister

South Australia's Police Minister has rejected claims from the Northern Territory that the state is too lax on drug trafficking.

A senior Territory policeman, Peter Gordon, says South Australia is a major source of marijuana because of less stringent police enforcement.

But Police Minister Paul Holloway says the drug penalties in South Australia are severe and that several police operations have been successful in seizing drugs.

"I think the facts are that we've been very effective in terms of drug seizures," he said.

“I think we’ve been very effective and I’m not really too concerned about what might be a throw away line from someone interstate.”
