Alleged dealer on remand

A MAN accused of taking $20,000 worth of marijuana to a remote community has been denied bail.

Rodney Daniels appeared in Darwin Magistrate's Court charged with five offences, including possessing a commercial quantity of cannabis and unlawful supply.

Prosecutor Erica Sims said the man bought 580g of cannabis from an unknown source in Fannie Bay and divided half the stash into small clip-seal bags.

The cannabis allegedly cost the man $4000 but had a resale value of $22,000.

Daniels allegedly took a flight to Bulman on January 25 and had to wait for his connecting flight to Ngukurr.

Sgt Sims said while he was waiting Mr Daniels "consumed a quantity of cannabis by rolling it up and smoking it".

When he arrived in Ngukurr, Daniels was approached by police, who noticed he had glazed eyes and was "very uneasy in their presence".

"The zip (of the man's bag) was undone and they noticed a strong smell of cannabis coming from it," Sgt Sims said.

Police searched the bag and found 578.5g of cannabis and 1125ml of rum.

Magistrate David Loadman said he would not grant bail without a significant surety and remanded Daniels to appear in court again on March 10.
