Tip-off leads to canabis seizure

A TIP-OFF to police resulted in the seizure of cannabis and cash found as a result of a vehicle search near Yulara.

Police said 100 deal bags containing 152g of cannabis and a quantity of cash were found hidden in an early model Toyota LandCruiser when pulled over by police near Yulara.

Police arrested a 51-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman, who were in the car, and seized the vehicle.

They said they pulled the LandCruiser over about 9.30am on Wednesday, 3km east of Yulara on the Lasseter Highway.

The man and woman have been charged with possessing a trafficable quantity of cannabis and have been bailed to appear in the Mutitjulu Magistrates Court on November 24.

Officer in charge of Yulara Police Station, Sergeant Andrew Marsh, praised the public help that resulted in the arrests.

He said the incident was an example of the results that could be achieved through information from the public.

"It was excellent police work but the public are also to be commended in this case as we only managed to get this result following a tip-off," Sgt Marsh said.

"Within three minutes of the call, police were on the road, and within 15 minutes we had made the seizure.

"Co-operation like this certainly helps us get results and it's a good example of police working in partnership with the community."
