Territory drug getaway was short-lived
A MAN who came to the Territory to get away from drugs has pleaded guilty to possessing a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine.
Kurt Anthony Fisher, 29, was arrested after police raided his home in July last year and found 139g of methylamphetamine in paste and powder form.
Chief Justice Brian Martin said Fisher came to the NT in 2003 “in an attempt to escape the drug scene” but his attempt was short-lived.
The judge said he accepted that most of the drugs were for Fisher’s own use.
But he said he believed Fisher was also intending to profit from selling the drug.
“Yours is a distressingly familiar story,” the judge said.
The court heard Fisher spent 42 days in custody after his arrest and has since completed the Credit Court drug rehabilitation program.
He received an 18-month suspended sentence and must not reoffend for two years.
