Govt urged to get serious about petrol sniffing inquiry

The Northern Territory's federal Labor Member for Lingiari, Warren Snowdon, says the Federal Government must get serious about an inquiry into petrol sniffing.

Yesterday, the Government blocked a Greens' motion in the Senate calling for an inquiry into the roll out of the non-sniff fuel Opal fuel in central Australia.

The Territory's Country Liberal Party Senator Nigel Scullion says he wants an inquiry to look beyond the roll out of Opal.

But Mr Snowdon says the Government's blocking of the motion is a horrible outcome.

"Apart from being self-congratulatory I'm not sure what these people do frankly," he said.

"What we need to do and I know ... the Labor Party will be moving to have another motion put, what we want to have is another motion put which has got the support of the Senate where we get an inquiry that actually gets an outcome."
