Court update
NAP's court battles continue... if you are in Darwin or the Top End, please show your support by attending some of our court cases. Here's a summary of where we are at:
Stuart Highway and Justin Tutty faced sentencing on September 1 but this was adjourned by Magistrate John Lowndes until Friday the 16th of September at 9.30am. This is to allow Justin to provide further information to the court regarding his suitability for community work. Stuart has been assessed as suitable for home detention and Lowndes has indicated that he thinks a custodial sentence of some sort is in order. It is extremely important that we have supporters in court for Justin and Stu on the 16th.
Scott had a directions hearing last week, via phone link-up from his home in Tassie, and he has been set a significant amount of homework by Chief Justice Brian Martin for his parliament invasion case. Scott's bail was enlarged until 9am on October 21 when he will have another phone link-up.
Due to sickness, Gary's appeal to the full bench of the NT Supreme Court for the bill-pasting conviction, did not go ahead as planned last week. This appeal will now be held on the 1st of November (International Drug Users Day) at 2pm.
The October trials for the 6th Smoke-In and the Occupation of Clare Martin's electorate office are looming. A number of Napatistas face two trials in a row; the first commencing October 10. These are both jury trials. There will be a mention in the NT Supreme Court at 9am on Wednesday the 7th of September and your support will be welcomed.
And after all that, Rob will get his second bite at the apple for his charges arising from the 6th smoke-in. He won an appeal against conviction for these charges but his prize was to have a second go in the Magistrate's Court. Rob's new hearing will be held on the 14th and 15th of November.
