NAPNT in the Media

The Network Against Prohibition (NAP) is a group dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and human rights of illicit drug users around the globe as well as the rights of those living in communities in developing countries who rely on opium, coca, cannabis etc for their survival! NAP originally formed in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, however, an expansion is underway.

Time to ‘name and shame’ corrupt police

Well-known Northern Territory social justice activist Stuart Highway has called for a Royal Commission into police corruption in the NT.

Mr Highway, who will be running as the Network Against Prohibition candidate in Saturday week’s NT election, says it is time to “name and shame” corrupt police.

Corruption was so entrenched throughout all tiers of policing, Mr Highway said, that Territorians had become blasé about the way their police service operated. “I emphasise that there are honest police out there,” Mr Highway, who is up against Jane Aagaard for the seat of Nightcliff, said. “But for others, corruption, lies and violence are a way of life. And they are used to getting away with it. Everybody knows the biggest and most dangerous street gang in Darwin is the NT Police.

“The sad fact is, corruption is rampant throughout the NT Police Service and it is time for a Royal Commission. “Such a probe should name and shame ‘bent’ cops. It should be conducted independently and there should be no limitations to what it can investigate. “Ideally, it would result in cops being charged with everything from assault and rape, to taking bribes.”

Mr Highway added that drug prohibition caused corruption throughout the entire criminal justice system.
