Resident scapegoats

HOW lucky we are to live in a city such as Darwin, with it's resident scapegoats, the itinerants - always drunk and fighting in everybodies gardens, it would seem. Come off it, people.

There just aren't that many around for all of us to have some living on our front lawn.

Some of us actually have to buy gnomes and stuff to decorate our yards with, and then the bloody kids steal them if you don't bolt them down. Apparently these itinerants go about urinating and defecating just everywhere.

Yet in 10 years driving around Darwin streets, day and night, I find it rare for the itinerants to be less than discreet than to duck off into the bushes. Whereas, on any given night, along Mitchell St between midnight and 6am, you'll likely witness at least a dozen middle class white boys urinating in full view of anyone who cares (or not) to watch.

And if you stroll around the suburban streets in the evenings, the all pervading stench is that of dog s..., not human.

Apparently the itinerants also are responsible for all the anti-social behaviour around town, yet I don't see many of them driving cars. So who do we blame for all the anti-social behaviour, a very sad lack of decency and good manners, on our roads.

There are too many hypocrites in Darwin lately - it never used to be like that. We've always had the itinerants. The trouble has only really started with the arrival of the Toorak Tractor set, the greedies and wannabes.
