Police get 18.5pc pay rise over 3 years
Police are to get an 18.5 per cent pay rise over the next three years.
The increases will be 9.5 per cent from July 1, 5.4 per cent next year and 3.6 per cent in December 2007.
The package also includes a 15 per cent night-shift allowance and greater incentives for working in remote communities.
After the first pay increase in two weeks, base wages will be: ACPO 1 and auxiliary 1 - $35,581 (up from $32,494); recruit - $36,679 (33,497) constable 1 - $46,163 ($42,158); constable 5 - $51,340 (46,886); senior-constable 1 - $54,971 ($50,202); sergeant 1 - $63,583 ($56,288); senior-sergeant 1 - $69,631 ($61,749); superintendent 1 - $97,444 ($88,990).
It will cost the Territory Government $40 million.
The agreement followed meetings between the Police Association, the Commissioner and the department.
It is expected to be accepted by rank-and-file police at a ballot which started on Tuesday and ends on June 30.
