NT stockman honoured

A Territory stockman who provided an outback haven for youngsters to escape petrol sniffing won Prime Minister's Award at the National Drug and Alcohol Awards in Sydney last night.

Barry Abbott, from the Ilpuria Aboriginal Association, has been operating a treatment outstation in Central Australia for 30 years.

His work in the Finke River district has seen hundreds of young people pass through the community's doors.

The awards recognise achievements in preventing drug use.
