NT Greens prop up racist, homophobic regime

The NT Greens have preferenced high-profile homophobe Chris Burns over the NT election’s only openly queer (non-heterosexual) candidate, the Network Against Prohibition’s Gary Meyerhoff.

In February, Dr Burns, a Minister in the Labor Government, called the Country Liberal Party’s John Elferink, a “poofter’’, during a fiery night in parliament.

Mr Meyerhoff said: “By aligning themselves with Labor, the Greens are propping up a racist and homophobic regime.

“The Labor party have moved further to the right of the CLP and are promising zero-tolerance crackdowns on young people and indigenous people.

“There are more indigenous people in jail now than there ever was under the CLP, and the Labor party is responsible for that.

“The Greens have sacrificed human dignity in favour of the environment.

“They’ve thrown their principles out the window for a few precious votes.”

Green preferences in Meyerhoff’s electorate of Johnston will ensure a comfortable win for the Labor Government in that seat.

The Greens are also preferencing the Labor candidate, Matthew Bonson, before NAP’s Millner candidate, Rob Inder-Smith.

Millner has been called too close to call.
