Casuarina candidate to be tried on invasion charges

A candidate for the seat of Casuarina in the Northern Territory has appeared briefly in the Supreme Court on charges relating to an invasion of Parliament in 2002.

The Network Against Prohibition candidate, Scott White, will face a trial by jury next month.

The prosecution are expected to call Labor's Family and Community Services Minister Marion Scrymgour and Speaker Loraine Braham to give evidence.

White, who is representing himself, says Chief Minister Clare Martin and CLP leader Denis Burke will both take the stand for the defence.

It is alleged nine network members stormed Parliament in May 2002 in protest of the Government's drug house legislation.
