Bail for accused pot dealer
A woman arrested after police found more than 12kg of cannabis and about $90,000 cash at a Stuart Park unit was granted bail yesterday.
Magistrate Vince Luppino fixed sureties and daily reporting when granting bail to Maria Laidat-McGregor, 36.
He fixed $10,000 self-bail and a $20,000 surety, $10,000 of that to be lodged in cash.
She must report to Darwin police daily.
Defence lawyer Ian Rowbottam said “sureties have come forward” for Mrs Laidat-McGregor.
Her husband, William John McGregor, 60, had not sought bail.
Mr Rowbottam said Mrs Laidat-McGregor would plead guilty to some charges. She had “absolutely no convictions”, was an Australian citizen and her passport had been taken from her.
Opposing bail, Acting Sergeant Iran Marinov said Mrs Laidat-McGregor was caught supplying cannabis for reward.
“She was the one actively involved in the transactions,” he said.
Most of the cannabis had been found at the Stuart Park home with her husband. Mr Luppino adjourned her charges to July 5.
