Aboriginal community declared dry area
The Northern Territory Licensing Commission has declared a small Aboriginal community, 80 kilometres south-west of Daly River, as a dry area.
A traditional owner at Emu Point Outstation sought help from the commission because alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behaviour had become a problem.
The commission heard the restricted area had support from most of the community's 80 members.
From September 1, residents and visitors will not be able possess, consume or dispose of alcohol within a radius of four kilometres around the outstation.
