Forum to address youth crime
Crime prevention experts are meeting in Darwin today to discuss ways to stop young people from re-offending.
The forum, run by the Northern Territory Justice Department, will examine issues including laws relating to young people, ways to stop drugs reaching remote communities and restorative justice practices.
The acting manager of youth justice in New Zealand's Ministry of Justice will deliver the keynote address, explaining how his government has handled offending among young New Zealanders.
The Territory's Justice Minister, Peter Toyne, will open the three-day forum and is expected to announce the creation of a Youth Justice Advisory Committee to give members of the public a say in cutting crime rates among young people.
