Darwin police stage anti-social behaviour clampdown
Darwin police say more than 1,000 people have been taken into protective custody for anti-social behaviour during a special operation.
Operation Soarer was conducted over two weeks around Darwin.
Police say they tipped out more than 700 litres of alcohol and an average of 72 people a day were taken into protective custody, or to sobering up shelters.
They say they launched the operation after figures showed a 23 per cent increase in the number of people arrested for anti-social behaviour during the first three months of this year.
The commander of the Darwin region, Max Pope, says while Operation Soarer was held over a fixed period, police will continue to clamp down on anti-social behaviour.
