Case for legalisation
Dear Sir
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister For Health and Ageing, Christopher Pyne, said: "drug use cost Australia about $6 billion a year," (Northern Territory News, April 18).
There is only one reason Australians pay so much for drugs: prohibition.
Drug prohibition keeps the price of drugs artificially high, resulting in a multibillion-dollar windfall for the dealers.
If Mr Pyne is really concerned about the price of currently illicit drugs in Australia, he should lobby for their legalisation.
