NT Govt to fight petrol sniffing

The Northern Territory Minister for Family and Community Services has introduced two Bills in Parliament aimed at tackling the scourge of petrol sniffing.

The Volatile Substance Abuse Prevention Bill and Misuse of Drugs Amendment Bill are aimed at giving police the power to intervene when they see someone sniffing petrol.

Marion Scrymgour says she is looking for contributions to improve the legislation before it is debated early next year.

She says the Northern Territory Government will not consider making sniffing a crime.
