Police issue dangerous drugs warning

Northern Territory police say a bad batch of illegal drugs that caused the hospitalisation of two Darwin women earlier this week, has most likely been sourced from interstate.

The women, aged in their twenties, were admitted to the Royal Darwin Hospital earlier this week with convulsions after taking the tablets.

The tablets are believed to be ecstasy.

A 26-year-old Darwin man will be summonsed in relation to supplying a dangerous drug.

Senior Sergeant Les Martin says there may be more people admitted to hospital or even deaths due to the drugs if people do not heed the warnings.

"They're made under conditions that aren't entirely sanitary or under any control and usually end up as a combination of a number of drugs all mixed into the one tablet," he said.

"There still needs to be a warning out there, that they really don't know what they're buying and the use of the drug might be more than they expected and might have some dire consequences."
