Mills blasted on drugs
NT Opposition Leader Terry Mills was last night labelled a hypocrite after it was revealed he is a member of a group that advocates heroin trials and injecting rooms.
In the Territory Parliament yesterday the CLP attacked the Martin Government over federal Labor's preference deal with the Australian Greens.
Mr Mills focused on the Greens' policy to introduce heroin injections rooms and regulate (sic) the supply of other recreational drugs.
He asked the Chief Minister Clare Martin if she supported injecting rooms in the NT.
"How can Mark Latham, the man you want Terrirtory mums and dads to vote for, support the Greens, a political party that wants to introduce a heroin injecting room?" he said.
But Ms Martin told Parliament that Mr Mills is (sic) a member of the Australian Parliamentary Group for Drug Law Reform – a group working to minimise the harm caused by the misuse of illicit drugs.
She relased a policy paper from the group recommending the establishment of trials for medical prescription of heroin and the establishment of supervised injecting rooms.
"We have an opposition leader who is a member of this drug law reform group and is advocating not only injecting rooms but heroin trials," she said.
"The group represents a range of views and I am a member of many groups.
"I absolutely do not support heroin injecting rooms."
Mr Mills said he would ''review'' his $30 subscription.
