Cops seize heroin stash from kitchen

Herion was found stashed in the kitchen of a Darwin home during a drug raid by police.

Police also found 14 spoons with herion residue on them in a fridge of the unit in Progress Drive, nightcliff.

Spoons are traditionally used to mix the herion before it is injected into the arm of the user.

A 44 - year old woman was arrested and charged with possessing dangerous drugs(herion).

In the last financial year, police seized a total of 6.8g of herion across the Territory.

Already this financial year they have seized 3.2g.

But Drug Squad superintendent Kris Evens said there had not been noticeable increase in the availability of heroin in the Territory.

"In our Misuse of Drugs Act a traffickable quantity," he said.

The NT has had a lower heroin usage than other jurisdictions because of the illegal abuse of morphine - based medicines here.
