The Network Against Prohibition (NAP) is a group dedicated to promoting and protecting the health and human rights of illicit drug users around the globe as well as the rights of those living in communities in developing countries who rely on opium, coca, cannabis etc for their survival! NAP originally formed in Darwin in the Northern Territory of Australia, however, an expansion is underway.

11th Community Smoke-in for Human Rights

In April 2002, one month after the formation of the Network Against Prohibition in the Northern Territory of Australia, NAP held the first community smoke-in for human rights.

As you can see from this picture, we were attacked by the Northern Territory Police Service in an attempt to stamp out dissent towards the "drug house" laws that were introduced to the NT that year.

The police failed in this attempt to stop community smoke-ins and NAP have held 8 community smoke-ins since the first.

Community smoke-ins are held on the second Saturday of every month at 12 noon in Darwin's Raintreee Park, with the exception of December and January which are a low activity period for NAP. The smoke-ins are rallies against the war on drugs and feature speakers from the community, live local bands, stalls, a free bbq and either a giant joint, the community hookah or a peacepipe depending on the mood of the organisers. The smoke-ins allow drug users and other concerned community members to come together and organise in our struggle to end the war on drugs around the world and the struggle to have draconian legislation repealed in the Northern Territory.

Don't miss the 10th community smoke-in for human rights, on Saturday the 10th of March at 12 noon in Raintree Park. For more info, or if you want to help out, please call the NAP office on (08) 8942 0570.
