Massive week for Drug Law Reform Activists in the NT
NT Chief Minister to face court Wednesday
Huge Community Smoke-in on Saturday
Be there or be square!
Northern Territory Drug Law Reform activists will have their day in court this week when senior Territory politicians appear in the Darwin Magistrate’s Court.
Members of the Network Against Prohibition NT, facing charges of unlawfully disrupting the legislative assembly whilst it is in motion, have subpoenaed the NT Chief Minister, Police Minister, Justice Minister, the leader of the Opposition and a number of other politicians to appear as witnesses.
Chief Minister Clare Martin will appear in the dock on Wednesday.
To show that NAP members have "no hard feelings", a "no hard feelings" tea party will be held at the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday at 1pm. Free cucumber sandwiches and fruit juice will be available as Bob Marley and Slim Shady blare out of our portable sound system.
All Territory politicians, prosecution staff, magistrates and judges are invited.
Saturday the 8th of March will see the 1st birthday party for NAP combined with the 9th community smoke-in for human rights. Starting at 11.30, the event will feature a free sausage sizzle, live bands and speakers on a range of topics from the war on drugs to the war on Iraq.
NAP Coordinator Gary Meyerhoff said "despite attempts to destroy the morale of NAP members, the NAP campaign is set to go into full gear as the dry season nears."
The parliament invasion case will be happening every day this week, March 3rd through March 7th from 10am to 4.30pm. This is the third part of the hearing that has already taken up 7 days. A further 5 days have been set down for May. A number of senior police have also been subpoenaed. This is a court case that cannot be missed.
