Tough Wood

When Gerry Wood was elected Member for Nelson last year, he would never have believed he was going from the Litchfield Lawmaker to the Bennett St Bouncer. But that was the job Mr Wood was forced into, in his role as deputy speaker, one evening this week when he evicted protesters from the Parliament House lawns. “I’ve got no problems with them being there during the day but if we let them camp here, we have to let everyone do it,” Mr Wood said. The protesters would have been issued with a permit allowing them to strut their stuff between the hours of 8am and 6pm – so does that mean they are only allowed to be angry during business hours?
