Territorians expected to gather en mass to smoke Darwin’s biggest joint
Saturday the 20th of April 2002 is set to be a date to remember for Darwin’s Pot smokers and users of other illicit substances marking the beginning of a major campaign against prohibition and zero tolerance policing in the Territory.
NAP activists have received overwhelming support from the community after handing themselves into the Darwin Local Police Office for smoking Cannabis last Friday.
The community smoke-in this Saturday at 12pm in Raintree Park is set to be the next step in the ongoing campaign against the NT Labor Government’s proposed legislation and approach to policing in the Territory.
Featuring live music with local band “Father, Mother, Child”, a free BBQ, children’s activities, poetry and speakers. The community joint will be lit by Radio Larrakia DJ Jed after an olympic flame ceremony is completed around Raintree Park.
NAP activist Scott White said “It is extremely important that people come out to this event to demonstrate to the Labor government the absurdity of their approach to illicit drugs. We are expecting a large number of people from a wide cross-section of the Territory community to attend the event.”
“The community smoke-in is just one of a number of events aimed at targeting the Government’s zero tolerance approach to drug users and other groups in the community such as the longgrass community and young people. NAP activists will join in with events on May 1, that includes a demonstration outside the Justice Department.”
NAP is also coordinating a community rally to be held outside parliament house on the 8th of May. Stay tuned for other events and actions. For further info contact Gary on 8942 0570 or Scott on 8945 6042.
